Follow Up

This is a follow up on my last post about the advertisement that a group of white males wanted to post in their school news paper.

The history books should be rewritten because the holocaust never happened.
Why minorities and women get special treatment.
Why doesn’t science acknowledge that being gay is actually a mental disease.

I was thinking about the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad when he came to Columbia University. There was a large group protesting his arrival. Which I think is stupid because no matter how narrow-minded we think a persons beliefs are doesn’t mean we should shut their voice. Maybe it didn’t help that he has doubts of the events that occurred during the holocausts . They can’t change what we know to be true or false. So I was wondering why people were bitching.

During the conference he stated something along the lines of ‘ you have gay people in this country but we don’t have them in Iran’ well technically there was some sort of translation error. There are Homosexuals in Iran but they are executed publicly.

When my teacher from my mascom class asked Would You Run The Ad. Many people agreed that they would run the advertisement but would write an editorial in the news paper perhaps on what they know about this group.

The head of the University should check up on those students who wanted to post that advertisement. It could have been open forum where others could share their ideas? It could be a good debate and they would have to change the format to add a little more information. Did anyone think of that? . If it’s some sort of white supremacist group then action should be taken. That’s what I think.

I think there’s a difference between shutting out a voice and refusing to run an advertisement to support a voice.

When you say “The history books should be rewritten because the holocaust never happened.” it just sounds like a one-sided discussion; no debate involved.

This is going to be a bit weird to explain.

Take a look at this link: BBC. I’m not sure if textbooks are still the same today, but this was a big problem within the past couple of years.
The person that they reference to [Shizuno Abe] was actually dismissed / resigned a few months ago and was replaced.

i think it would be better to use a formal debate, like a parliamentary one, to settle things up. the reason why i support this kind of debate is because both panels(defense and prosecution) should be knowledgeable on the matter… and the main purpose of the debate is to enlighten everyone on the said matter. :)

Ahh… human rights and all that.
    Very confusing, I shall say.

I never knew America to be like that…
But protests are far from scarce.

I still think that no one should run such a ad like that.
    It’s just too…
    Unfair.
