Babe: Pig In The Beautiful City
Yesterday instead of studying I watched that movie Babe: Pig in The City it’s the second movie about Babe the pig. I love pigs. To eat and to look at.
But too many people found it ‘disturbing’ like the scene when the dog was being hanged over water and the fish bowl breaking. I can understand if you don’t like the movie but to call it ‘mindless violence’ is a little much. Babe saved both the dog and the fish eventually and those people who found it ‘disturbing’ really didn’t get the message of those scenes. You can’t have a hero if nothing bad happens. They just saw violence violence violence The End.
Anyway the last time I saw the movie I must’ve been around 7. When I watched it yesterday I liked it more than I liked it when I was younger. There was so much to admire in the movie. I kept saying ‘ooohhh’ ‘aaaahhh’ ‘look at that!’. I know sometimes babe and mostly the rats were robotic but there was some scuttling scenes that were real and I’m wondering how the animal trainers were able to do that (food I guess). And that chasing scene with the dog and Babe, that dog looked like he was really going to kill babe if he got a chance.
Another thing I really like about the movie was the city. It’s a fictional city called Metropolis and if you looked closely it’s a mixed of different cities around the world and different time eras. There is a scene when the cars look like the are from the 1940s but the people at another scene look modern (or at least 1990s modern) and there was that party from what look like from the 1800s.

If you look closely you would see the Hollywood sign (Los Angeles), Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco), Eiffel Tower (Paris), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Statue of Liberty (New York) and various sky scrappers from many cities all over the world.

This is outside the hotel that Babe is staying and as you can see it looks very European. I’m guessing the inspiration for this was Venice, Italy.
Gaaahh! I wish I had a night scene picture it looks so much better at night. Just like what Ratatouille did to make me want to visit France this movie did wanting me to visit Metropolis. I want to watch the movie again just for the sake of looking at the artwork.
Can you believe I’ve never seen both Babe movies? I’m intrigued about this fictional city though. Thanks for posting the pics. I should watch the movie some time when it’s on TV. Probably around Christmas.. they always play it here.
Btw, I read your blog post about the boy. I’m sorry that happened to you. I think it’s really brave you blogged so openly about it. I was nervous about my entry, cause I felt I really put myself out there. And I don’t want to be like the boy. I do talk to him when I see him and I always say hi. But I do find it hard. I hope someday things will work out between you and the boy, and you can become friends again.
If it’s not something you like, then don’t do it! You shouldn’t let your parents decide for you. Once you have a good look at college you’ll at least know what you like.
Happy belated birthday! [I know I’m really late, lol.]
I have seen the first babe movie, but I was about 7 and I had just come to Canada. didn’t understand any of it because i couldn’t speak english.
Ratatouille was an awesome movie though, I REALLY want to go to France now!
I hate pigs
I’ve never watched that movie, but just the name “Babe” annoys me.
I have never watched the Babe movies. You make them sound great though. I might have to rent them.
I loved the first Babe movie! And OMG, I can’t believe it’s been 12 years! Back when I was a kid, I used to pop in my VHS tape into the VCR (the ’90s lol!) every now and then. That flick was and will always be phenomenal.
As for the second installment, although less superior than the original, it’s still a treat. As for the darker tone of the movie, I’m not blaming critics and audiences alike if they found the movie that way. The first one was intended for kids and they expected the sequel to somehow retain its “innocence.” But I have to agree with you: the “hyper-realized”city set is marvelous! It’s a bit freaky seeing the World Trade Center, though.
Wow I didn’t know those things about Babe! And violence? In Babe? I agree with you, and those people are stupid
I don’t recall there’s real “violence” in the Babe movies? I always loved Babe. Did they use robot animals in some scenes? I didn’t know that, lol. I guess back then it looked very real to me
Wow, I’ve not actually seen that movie, but the still with all the landmarks in it is amazing, I’m taken it. Sorry you found some of the movie freaky though
Hmm, I’ve never seen the second movie. I think I saw the first when I was very young. I’ve read the book though.
Woah, I’ve never noticed all those things about the city. Sounds so… dreamlike! Imagine, if that really existed, it would be flooding with tourists all year round, just to take in all the landmarks in a breath. Behootiful!
OMG! Babe! haha cuti little pig.
i love that movie and i love pigs as well
Thanks for the visit, and for your inquiry, i always use Canon cameras, the one ive been using for the last few weeks now is my Canon EOS 40D. And the Tamron lens I bought can be mounted to my canon cam.
^^ i love your site especially your MADE YOU LOOK blog haha. I enjoyed it.
That movie looks really interesting

Hahah. I find pigs cute too. Especially piglets.
aww. they look sweet. =P
oh i have never even seen those movies! i guess i was a little too old for them :S i’m not sure… maybe i just wasn’t very much into pigs
the images look very pretty though! glad you enjoyed your study break that way!!
I love the movie Babe. The second one is cool too. I was always extremely upset at the part where the dog with the little wheels falls over on the street. D:
I agree that Babe: Pig in The City has a really, really neat setting. The hotel is pretty. I like how you can see an oriental sign in the background.
And… Thank you! Yeah… J-rock was the inspiration for my hair. I got it done at Regis Salons. I’m not sure if they’re everywhere…Probably just scattered around the United States in misc. places.
I love Babe!! Two of the best movies I watched growing up.
I’m going to have to pull out the videos and re watch them I think.
=]
Hey I love the hotel, it looks soo cute. Ha ha. I loveeeeee Ratatouille too. You should buy the DVD, my friend bought it yesterday and we watched it again. Anyone can cook
You gotta admit the cartoon drawing of Paris was still very pretty. I have that as my desktop background.
I haven’t seen Babe: Pig in the City. But I enjoyed the first Babe, haven’t seen it for years though!
Of course a movie like this will not have a lot of violence, but like you say, how can Babe save the day?! There needs to be some build up!
Lol.. love the photo, you’re right. He’s looking at about 12 cities at once!
I definitely thought Babe was a cute movie. I saw it years ago, and I enjoyed it quite throughly. I don’t believe I ever noticed any “mindless violence” it’s just action scenes as I see it.
I’ve never seen that movie (only the first Babe) but your pictures kind of makes me want to see it purely for enjoying the scenery
) That’s such a cool cityscape.
I liked that movie… Violence? I don’t remember any violence in both movies.
Eh, these days… they try to make all kiddie movies… cute, clean and “non-scary”. To the point where important messages get lost.
I remember the first movie but I don’t think I saw the next one. Metropolis looks amazing though.
i know that there is a movie about babe, the pig, but i have never seen it. you love pigs? i guess a lot of people does! except me
Oh I love Babe! I love pigs in general, but Babe totally rocks! I think most people just like to complain about violence in movies in general. I guess they might’ve been a little more harsh on this movie coz it’s for kids too though. I don’t remember that scene from the movie so can’t comment on it.
Those pictures are lovely. I think it’s great that they used different scenes from different cities around the world in the movie. It’s so much more interesting than setting the movie in one city.
yaargh I was never able to watch this movie but after you mention that something terrible happens to the dog I don’t think I will (I get weak in the knees or something similar) even if he gets saved by Babe in the end
I’ve never seen any of the Babe movies but Metropolis looks awesome. I love the photo of it you posted. ^__________^
Hello Exene! How are you? x3 ooh. Babe movie! I liked that before haha XD you have a new domain? cool! :3 can you update my link? http://koroshite.webs.com :] thank you!
I’ve never seen that film but I really like the idea of the blending of cities and different eras. What a neat concept! I am pretty sure I saw the first Babe but it’s been awhile. I’m old and my memory is lacking. heh.
I think it’s a sweet movie and I love it as much as I love porkchop, lol
