Mark Ryden: So Disturbing I Can’t Help But Look

I’ve been looking at Mark Ryden’s work for some time now. He’s a modern painter who currently works in Eagle Rock. He usually combines, blood , cute animals, little girls, slabs of meat, Abe Lincoln, religious figures and symbols together. His paintings have a very Alice In Wonderland feel.

Here I’m sharing his less disturbing pictures.

Here are pictures from his gallery The Tree Show.

  1. I’ve seen his work sprinkled here & there. And of course I’ve seen PLENTY of works inspired by his style. The colors are so captivating.

  2. The whole semi gothic vibe to his paintings plus the way they are richly colored = outstanding.

    Anyway…

Hon, people watch Prison Break and most shows of the same ilk to escape reality, let their imagination soar and stuff. So, duh, it’s supposed to be unrealistic. That’s what TV is all about. You’re dumb if you’re expecting that kind of show to closely depict reality. Go watch Discovery Channel or those stupid reality shows if you want that kind of shit, mmk? And about Bionic Woman, don’t you think I know what you’re yakking about? Lastly, if you’re going to be such a bitch, do it the proper way. Kbabai. ;-p

  3. Thanks for sharing his less threatening art. Now I’m intrigued about the ones that aren’t so…fluffy lol.

  4. Wow, thanks for the link. I’ve seen his work here and there but never looked much into it. There’s something about his style that captivates me yet freaks me out a bit. I don’t really like the disturbing ones though, haha~ I love the big eyes look.

  5. Oh his work is hot. Thanks for this post. I love abstract art like this.

  6. Wow. That’s good talent, but… a few of the paintings freaked me out, like the one where Abe Lincoln pulled a baby out of the tree??
    Whoo!
The human characters remind me of “Bratz” for some reason.

  7. lol. i know. my friend got a scholarship from stanford from taking that SAT test. :D

  8. wow, his work is nice. i checked out his site, and even though it’s a bit scary, i like this one: http://www.markryden.com/paintings/bunnies/boyblued.html

    thanks so much for sharing!

  9. It’s certainly different and unique. I really like the third picture. Her poor head!

  10. Ooh, the works are beautiful and sinister at the same time, it’s so wonderful. I love the first and second pictures, the bear is so cute!

  11. His works are beautiful :)
As I can see, he likes to work a lot at the face expressions.

  12. i think his works are splendid. =)

i just didnt like the girl eaten by a tree. haha XD i fell from a tree once, wouldnt want to be eaten by one too. XDD

  13. I’ve never seen his work before but i’m already in love with it, thanks for the link! lovely site btw :)

  14. Haha, those are cute yet disturbing at the same time. Regarding your comment on my post, I know some people actually need those automatic things either because they really can’t clean themselves, or because they’re not very good at it. Don’t worry, if people don’t agree it doesn’t make me mad :P I like to hear others opinions.

  15. Ah, I absolutely like this kind of art :) It lookes a little animated doesn’t it? But I definately understand the AiW feeling.. I’ll go look at some of his more disturbing art ;)

  16. The guy has talent, I can’t believe someone PAINTED that… I can’t even draw it lol. The content is rather… unorthodox. And I don’t see what he is trying to “say”, but the technique is on point.

  17. My first time to hear about this artist. He’s actually good! Not a wow, cuty kind of art but very orig!

  18. I’ve never heard about him before but his work is amazing! I love all of those pictures of his work.

  19. Aw that one with the bear and the girl is so adorable!

He has a very nice style :D

  20. I love the last two paintings, the tree eating the little girl reminds me of a t-shirt I have (somewhere) that has barney (the big purple dinosaur) holding one kid up in the air above his mouth by the ankles while another one is sticking out of his mouth and it says ‘remember kids, barney loves you!’

hehe, cute and evil go so well together dontcha think?

  21. The magazine Juxtapoz features him and other “lowbrow” new surrealists regularly. Check out Todd Schorr
