Czech Man Wakes Up From A Crash And Knows PERFECT ENGLISH

18-year-old Matej Kus’ only knew basic english but after his speedway accident paramedics were shocked to hear him speaking perfect english.

“It was in a really clear English accent, no dialect or anything. Whatever happened in the crash must have rearranged things in his head.

“Before his crash Matej’s use of the English language was broken, to put it mildly.

“He was only just making a start on improving it and struggled to be understood, but was keen to learn.

“Yet here we were at the ambulance door listening to Matej talking to the medical staff in perfect English.

“Matej didn’t have a clue who or where he was when he came round. He didn’t even know he was Czech.

“It was unbelievable to hear him talk in unbroken English.”

Though his new-found talent didn’t last long. As he was recovering his perfect English went away.

I heard a similar story about an American woman who got hit on the head and started speaking with a British accent and she even knew British slang words that she never heard before. How did that happen?

The human mind is a strange thing. I heard in Psychology that all babies can identify every dialect in the world but they forget about it once they learn how to talk and also because of the influences in their environment.

I think I need to hit myself over the head with a blunt object and see what happens.

  1. That is soo strange about that man speaking perfect english.. What a big shock to his family, I hope they learn the language! I havent heard the one about the babies before though.. I’ll have to give that some thought! :) Take care!

  2. Really? I’d love to do that…
Maybe I’ll hit my head and start speaking perfect Korean, because sure as heck, I don’t do that now and my parents always get pissed about it…

    SOMEBODY…
DROP A PIANO ON MY HEAD!

  3. We were all…I was once multi-lingual?! Im putting that in my autobiography.

  4. wow. i learned something new today. =)

plus, i think the guy looks kinda okay. haha

maybe i should crash too to learn a new language. buut, i’ll never do that. haha.

  5. this is why i always bang my head. i wanna be french.

  6. Wow, that is so… amazing. I wish I could have an accident and come back speaking perfect Spanish, then I wouldn’t need to take another class xD

The Beatles song was, uh, something that ended with ‘Hard Day’s Night’. I think it’s quite famous, but I don’t really know it.

LOL, some people just DON’T GET the DS, like me xD

  7. Oh my god, that is mad. I have never heard of that. It’s kinda creepy in a way :O

  8. That is a very, very strange thing. Hrm, I’d be really skeptical about that, but i can imagine it would be really cool to see someone like that, talking a language they didn’t know :P

  9. wow. now that’s a cool yet scary thing.
i wish i could do that so i could pass spanish
    -drops dead on the ground-
    do i know spanish yet?
    a;jdkahdlkahdlkad

anyways, love the layout. it’s simple yet gorgeous

  10. That is pretty cool! Maybe I should get my friend to knock me out so I can come back speaking French so I can pass my course. That would be nice.

It is pretty eerie to think that babies know every language in the world; so my little cousin who’s one years old right now could be plotting for world domination in Russian yet no one would ever know…

Hmm I wonder if she will let me keep Hawaii…:P

  11. Wow, I think I’ve heard of something like that before. Pretty weird. I think what I heard was of an older man (I can’t remember what happened to him), but, afterwards, she spoke perfect English, too.

That’s so cool that babies know all the languages of the world =D

  12. That is so weird! It’s so strange how brain injuries can make you act.

I never heard the one about babies before. I’m inclined to be a bit skeptical, since language is an arbitrary human invention and there are so many different ones, but it is interesting to think about :)

  13. OMG. That is an amazing story.

I wonder if I can start talking in an Australian accent if I get hit in the head. lol. I’ve always wished I had one. I love their accents. :)

  14. Too bad he recovered, really.

  15. I hope all accident makes positive turns that way! But,unfortunately that’s not always the case.Either the victim suffers brain damage or unhurt.Ah well,Miracle do happens…sometimes:)

Btw,thanks for stopping by my blog.Enjoyed reading yours as well, will surely be back for more!

    happy weekend!

  16. The baby thing I would not doubt. But wow! I mean, sure the human mind is capable of many amazing feats but that’s just strange! O_O I mean, it’s plausible and I believe it but it’s a little weird to think about.

  17. soo… like…
the show “Rugrats” isn’t so impossible after all. :D

    wowww.
    i’m shocked.

    fgjsdflkgj.
    i love Matej’s blue eyes. :D

  18. I seriously doubt that babies know every language in the world, since languages are conventional and there’s absolutely no logic in that. But that they would know the language they’ve heard through the 9 months they spent in the belly, might be true. Even though they really can’t speak when they’re born. Those people who were hit on the head in some way must have heard the dialects and slang at some time in their life, even though they don’t remember. It’s cool though :)

  19. Well, as a psychologist I immediately thought the bump in the head must’ve triggered the part in the brain that deals with language. I’ve read about it in the past, but it’s all kinda fuzzy now.

However, I’ve NEVER heard that babies know all the languages and I don’t think that’s accurate either. I think babies are more susceptible to languages and can more easily pick them up. Too bad that all fades once they get older. Maybe it’s to protect ourselves from getting brain overload. ;)

  20. Damn, I wish I could hit myself over the head, and wake up speaking perfect Mandarin xD
Ah, well, tell us what happens when you hit your head with your blunt object… if you can remember! =P
    Heh, okay xD

  21. Woah! Now that is some freaky stuff! But in a way pretty cool. Hopefully he can actually learn it this time around..

  22. THAT’S AWESOME!

Although I don’t know what language I’d like to learn. I can speak 4 and I can’t think of any others I’d really need to learn…

  23. I think I need to hit myself over the head with a blunt object and see what happens.

let me be your guest. lmfao. jk. ive heard the same thing about babies too. that is really weird, but i reckon that is one of the weird things in life huh?

  24. How painful would it be if you were attempting to do it purposely? Do you think you would react differently if it was something you did because you wanted to and not accidentally?

And that’s amazing I bet he was sad to see that ability to go.

  25. maybe we should all have accidents more often, eh? and i’ve never heard about that with the babies - that’s really cool, do you think it’s true? i have read that if we didn’t learn how to speak a language by a certain age (maybe ten? that might be too old), we never will.

  26. I remember one of the episodes of House M.D., it’s gotta be the right brain does all that. or i maybe wrong.

    hehehe.

    interesting post. :)

  27. That is strange and really intriguing. Imagine if I suddenly started speaking French fluently. Ahh.

  28. Amazing! I’ve never heard of such a thing happening before! Too bad it’s only temporary.

  29. Wow, I’d love to be able to cheat at learning a language like that…mind you, it’s probably not worth being in a car crash…
Still, if I could just, you know…get someone to slap me round the head, and automatically learn the rest of my Greek course, then that’d be kinda cool…
I guess everyone would do it, though…

  30. Hmmmm…that’s interesting. The human brain boggles my mind.

  31. thats amazing, too bad it never lasted long, but still very werid and interesting!

  32. wow that’s like soo weird. it’s crazy. :O the human mind, is an interesting thing. haha

  33. WTF hahahaha!!!11

    Bullshit. ;-p

  34. That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

  35. i was watching medical incredible a while ago on the health channel and i think they did a story on the lady you mentioned in your blog. it is amazing how the mind works! i’m saying! maybe i should hit myself with someone, and then i’ll be able to speak perfect french and get an A in that class =].

  36. wow that is so werid and yet cool at the same time lol

  37. Perhaps the ability to speak english was due to the loss of some important piece of data in the brain. The brain had to rebuild it’s database and in the process of rebuilding, forgot that it’s native language was Czech. After a short bit of time it was able to retrieve the much larger amount of information that contained the Czech language and old pathways were restored.
