Mark Ryden: So Disturbing I Can’t Help But Look

I’ve been looking at Mark Ryden’s work for some time now. He’s a modern painter who currently works in Eagle Rock. He usually combines, blood , cute animals, little girls, slabs of meat, Abe Lincoln, religious figures and symbols together. His paintings have a very Alice In Wonderland feel.

Here I’m sharing his less disturbing pictures.

Here are pictures from his gallery The Tree Show.

Why RSS Is Really Important

rss-icon.jpg
Todays topic is the important of having an RSS ( really simple syndication) feed. I think it’s important for bloggers (probably you) to provide your feed at least to your visitors. According to technorati there are 50 million blogs and is continuing to growing in a alarming rate. RSS helps you keep up with the news that’s going on with all your blogging friends.I’ve been blog-hopping and some people just don’t bother to have RSS feeds for some reason. I guess they don’t know what it’s for or thinks that it’s really difficult. I’m telling you your missing out.

RSS feeds are also a great way to keep up with what’s happening on the web.
It can be used for news sites or blogs.
When you subscribe to someones feed by clicking on the orange (usually) logo you usually add it to a reader. The reader that I use is Google Reader, you can use something else of course like Bloglines.

Readers are usually organized and let you know if a blog that you subscribed to has a post(s) that you haven’t read yet. Sort of like e-mail. It would be kind of a hassle to go to each individuals blog and they haven’t updated yet. With RSS you will know if they already posted, that saves you time.

The thing that I really like about Wordpress is that it has an instant ping service (something to check for updates).

Feedburner is a good tool to keep up with your subscribers and what are they using to read your post. If you already signed up to a reader service I hope you wouldn’t mind subscribing to my feed *points at sidebar*

I hope I wasn’t too confusing.

Integration Anniversary

September 1957 was the first time that Elizabeth Eckford joined what use to be an all white school in Little Rock. Though as you can she wasn’t very welcomed she was taunted and followed by an angry mob almost everywhere that she went. There were hundreds of young military people because there were so many riots from anti-integration supporters and yes things did get violent.

In 1958 Elizabeth Eckford moved to St. Louis where she achieved the necessary qualifications to study for a B.A. in history. After graduating she became the first African American in St. Louis to work in a bank in a non-janitorial position.I’m going to look for other picture somewhere about a African American girl who only stayed 3 days in school because she couldn’t stand the bullying. I going to TRY to find it.

The video is really disturbing because you see young teenagers from the 1950s being interviewed and saying that they don’t want black people in their school, holding protest and saying things like ‘those colored people should get out of the way’.

The people being interviewed is a military personnel (then 17) and a former student of Little Rock.

Don’t say things are much better now because you know they aren’t.

Learn Languages For Free Online

mango.pngMango Languages is a very interesting free online program. The instant you sign up you can use it! They have Spanish, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Greek and a bunch of other languages for English and Spanish speakers to learn. Including Pig Latin!

They are currently on beta mode but so far I haven’t stumbled upon any bugs or anything. They are also planning to add more languages, I suggest Korean.

I suggest if you have a lot of free time that you will take a look at the site and sign up. The lessons are pretty easy with constant repetition and a bunch of slides per lesson. Did I mention that it was free?

Good for if ever you want to travel someday.

Think Twice Before Posting Personal Pictures On Flickr

Recently a Texas family is suing Virgin Mobile for using their daughters photograph for Advertisements.
She is grief stricken and humiliated after her photo has been all over billboards and websites without her consent.
According to the files the company got the image from the popular image sharing website Flickr.

A mother is shock to find that her young boy’s pictures are in a Portuguese dating site profile under the name ‘Billy’. Some pedophiles have made creepy comments such as ‘I love you Billy’ and even something that seemed like a love poem.

The mother was quoted saying ” I feel sick to my stomach. I just felt queasy and started crying.”
She has since then removed all her son’s pictures from Flickr.

Full video report here.

I personally don’t really use Flickr but I wouldn’t post a picture that I didn’t want to be seen.
